So we had been using Jetpack Carousel for my friend Bryan Perrin Studio’s website and when we updated wordpress the plugin was incompatible.
Fortunately I have already installed the lightweight, responsive jQuery modal lightbox called Magnific Pop-Up (by Dimitri Semenov) on a couple of sites, Renaissance Man and Storybook Sound with many thanks to A. J. Troxell’s tutorial for help incorporating in into WordPress.
